2026 Munger Potato Festival Truck Rules

  1. Any stock made ½ ton, regular or extended cab, two (2) wheel drive pick-up truck, suburban or full size van is permitted. 4 wheel drives are allowed but must have front drive shaft removed. No super duty ¾ ton heavy half or one ton trucks permitted. No Ambulance frames allowed.
  2. Maximum six (6) lug bolt pattern front & rear end. No rear end braces. May chain/ 9 wire around rear end to frame. 2 locations max. Must go around frame/ rear end. No welding. STOCK drive shafts permitted.
  3. Any engine. No Engine Cradle or pulley protectors. No transmission braces. Stock engine/ engine saddle mounts. May weld mounts to frame saddle. May use 2 chains from engine to engine frame saddle 12” long. 2 chain links max welded to engine saddle.
  4. No changing body bolts/ mounts. If rusted you may replace with same thickness bolt. Pick-up trucks with boxes only may add 4 half inch by 5 inch long body bolts to hold box on frame Maximum six (6) inch washers or metal plates can be used on floor for anchoring purposes.
  5. It is recommended that the driver’s door be padded inside and be reinforced. Recommended method is a steel plate 1/8” thick and minimum 18” in width welded or securely bolted to outside of the door, maximum 8” in front and behind the door break. Center line of plate should be at driver’s hip height. All other doors must be securely fastened by chain, wire, seat belt or welded. Vertical seams only.may weld vertical seams from top to bottom with 3 inch wide plate.
  6. All bumpers can be any year stock type seam welded only. No Chrysler pointy bumpers. You may use a max 4”x4” tube with a factory skin welded on the front. May not be wider than the front tire width. Front Bumper height must be no higher than 28” from center of bumper to ground rear bumper must be within 6 inchs of front bumper height.. Rear step bumper must have diamond plate and hitch removed.
  7. At least one (1) mandatory chain, cable or bar must be installed between roof and cowl (middle of windshield) to prevent hood from entering driver’s compartment.
  8. Rear cab back glass opening must be covered with a strong wire or nylon mesh screen that is at least as wide as the driver’s shoulders. Screen may be used in place of windshield.
  9. Auxiliary gas tank must be securely mounted at least three inches (3”) from front of truck bed, center of bed forward of the rear axle. Secured cap, lines and fitting must be leak proof. Tank must be covered or enclosed in metal. Pump gas only.
  10. Gas lines must be ran in a safe location inside the cab or under it.
  11. A fire extinguisher is recommended at close reach to driver and secured. (Optional)
  12. You may weld cab to bed of truck. Max 3 inch wide by 16 inch long strip of metal.
  13. Hood must be secured locations max with chains, wires or angle. Max angle 2″x2″x 2″ with 1, 1/2″ bolt per angle location. If threaded rods are used, only 2 may go to frame in front on core support factory body mount locations. Rods cannot exceed 5/8 in diameter and must not extend more than 6” above the hood. 3 nuts per rod may be used. Plates holding down hood may not exceed 6”x6”. NO pipes or pipe over threaded rods.
  14. Mandatory openings must be cut in hood over each side of carburetor, two (2) 8” holes or one 14” hole or both.
  15. Tail gate/ rear doors must be chained, wired or welded. 8 locations 4”x4”x1/8” thickness max.
  16. Any tire, no studded tires, wheel weights must be removed.
  17. NO lift kits. Stock suspension only.
  18. May have a 4 point cage. 6″x6″ max cage material. 60″ door bars max 6″ off floor. May have 1 down leg on drivers side welded to floor sheet metal. Must pass officials inspection.
  19. May have halo over rear of cab. May have 2 kickers from halo to bed floor. 6″x6″ max pad welded or bolted to bed floor only. no further back than 4″ behind the gas tank. This is for drivers safety only.
  20. You must have a protective bar on the driver’s door, but it cannot extend more than 6” in front of or past the rear of the door. (It can be inside or outside.)
  21. If battery is located inside the passenger side of the pick-up, it must be covered and securely mounted to the floor/ cage.
  22. Stock steering column only. Aftermarket gas/break/shifters allowed.
  23. Rules are subject to change with as much notice as possible, according to the USA/Unique Demolition Derby officials.

This is not a builders class no grey areas anything done that the rules do not say will be cut or you will be loaded.
